If Hawk Cowper wasn’t at Envelope, he might be a Brick Master on the highly addictive Lego Masters beaming onto our screens.
The young man who was born in County Wicklow, south of County Dublin in Ireland grew up tinkering with Meccano and Lego, trying to create unique toys and produce innovative builds.
He says his father was a substantial influence on him, building the family kitchen as well as constructing sheds around the property. Hawk helped him out where he could, trailing him around as he worked and cites his dad as being responsible for his fondness for finding and creating buildable solutions.
He got his undergraduate degree from Trinity College, Dublin and had plans to work as a mechanical engineer. However, a job at a structural consultancy beckoned and after that, Hawk was hooked. He studied in Surrey for an MSc to firm up his knowledge and understanding of structural principles.
Hawk joined Team Envelope in the early years, and returned in 2023. He loves the community spirit which comes with his role at the Auckland office.
His role is to lead design and analysis of new structural projects, managing projects, timeframes and expectations. He enjoys finding buildable solutions and offering architects and clients workable options they may not have otherwise considered.
Outside work, he loves going to the gym, hiking, and watching films. And he has transitioned from Meccano to board games, loving the banter and camaraderie which happens during games. Hawk cites bringing good friends together and enjoying a hot mulled wine around the table as they strategise and have a few laughs as his happy place.
