“To boldly go where no man has gone before …”
For a while, it seemed Ben was determined to live his days living up to a quote from one of his childhood faves, Star Trek. He moved around from country to country, his love for adventure making him move on every time a place thought it had a hold on his heart.
Born in London, his family moved to the United States, then to France. He continued to travel as he got older, going back to the States and then to the UK, before picking up his backpack again.
And then, as tends to happen even to the most ardent traveller, he fell in love. First with a girl, then with a country. So, after a couple of international breaks – this time with a family in tow, Ben looks to be back in New Zealand for good.
Always up for an adventure, Ben was actually on board at the start with Envelope, one of three working out of a client’s front living room. It was exhilarating being part of a start up with a mentality of doing whatever it took to deliver on work and compete with much larger companies. That can-do, ‘outside the box’ ethos is what brought him back to Envelope in 2023.
From a young age, Ben was interested in science and technology, and grew up on a diet of science fiction books and Star Trek. He studied at Warwick University, and realised that education empowers to make a difference, settling on becoming an engineer.
Outside work, Ben loves mountain biking, skiing and has a newfound love for running.
A hoppy craft beer and a waterfront view rate high on his relaxation scale. He hopes, whatever is next with work, travel, and play, to “live long and prosper”, as Trekkies say.
