Mackenzie Corbett
PROJECT SURVEYOR
From a busy family life in the suburbs of South Dunedin hails Mackenzie Corbett - surveyor, cook, boxer, and musician.
Mackenzie joined Envelope’s Wellington office in late 2024, carrying out land surveys from conception to completion.
The second youngest of seven siblings, he spent most of his childhood tearing around the family home with his brothers and sisters. His parents have been hugely inspirational - his dad, a lifelong tradesman in mining and engineering, has worked everywhere from the jungles of the Philippines and Papua New Guinea to the mines of Western Australia. His mum, a talented seamstress, has worked on everything from local designer labels to Arctic expedition gear.
Their hard work gave Mackenzie and his siblings great opportunities - something he’s embraced with passion and commitment.
Though naturally drawn to art and music (more on that soon), Mackenzie pursued surveying at the University of Otago before taking his degree to Australia to work in the tropical territories of Northern Queensland.
Now in Wellington, he’s rekindled his love for the arts, regularly performing at open mic nights with his trusty guitar in hand.
He also stays active through boxing, a sport he’s competed in for years as a registered amateur.
A handy home cook, Mackenzie enjoys connecting with his Filipino roots by experimenting with the bold flavours of its cuisine.
When it’s time to unwind, he’s partial to a pint of Emerson’s Pilsner - best enjoyed at an outdoor bar leaner with a few overpriced Kettle chips and good mates. “Hits best on a cold night in Dunedin.”
But on the right night, in the right mood, you’ll find him mixing Soju cocktails, cooking up a big pot of pork adobo, and belting out tunes at the local karaoke bar.
With such a rich background, it’s no surprise he has multiple favourite places. Down south, it’s Dunedin's St Clair Esplanade and the vast landscapes of Central Otago - perfect spots to ‘press pause.’ Abroad, it’s Caraga, Davao Oriental in the Philippines, his family’s ancestral home - a pared-back tropical paradise rich in connection, people, and place.
What an absolute knockout life.
