Structural Engineer
The heroes of Demetri Camberis’ childhood were Hercules, Theseus, Achilles, Perseus - and the grandfather who told him the stories of these Greek heroes and mythical figures.
Though Wellington-born, Demetri’s heart, and the hearts of his family, lie back in Greece.
Demetri started at Envelope in 2021, after working in the Wellington areas for more than five years. He loves how Envelope staff are valued and work as a team, as well as the well-designed organisational systems in place.
At school Demetri excelled in graphic design and after completing courses in 3D Animation and Photoshop, thought he would be headed into a role in visual design or game design.
However, physics was another strength and after checking out what his cousins and friends did for a crust – engineering – he enrolled at Weltec to study civil engineering. It was here he found his passion for structural engineering.
Outside of work, Demetri still loves to design and draw, working up designs for his own clothing brand, or creating a design for a tattoo for a friend. He also loves UFC and martial arts and plays indoor futsal.
When the sun shows its face in the capital Demetri heads outdoors for time with friends and family. He is on an ongoing quest to find the best cocktails in Wellington.
His dream break involves a gyro, a long cool mango daiquiri, and a sunset in Santorini. Would that combination beat Wellington on a good day? Greece has the upper hand with weather, food might be a closely fought tussle, but the cocktails? Hard to say. Best have another one just to be sure.
