Mark Bowden
Property Consultant
Family. Road trips off the beaten track. Rock’n’roll vinyl. Rugby.
These are some of the key things which make Mark Bowden tick.
Based out of Envelope’s funky Victoria Park Market locale, Mark is a surveyor and property consultant over 40 years of experience.
Auckland-born Mark went to St Paul’s College and cites teachers from that time as key influences in his life. Many of whom remain close friends today.
Rugby was a big part of his school years, with one of his earliest mentors being his coach, a former brother. He played rugby at Marist for ten years and was also a member of the Waipu Cove Surf Life Saving Club.
His love for adventure and the outdoors started young, especially when it meant heading off the beaten track. A family bach on Waiheke Island was his escape and he credits both his parents and grandparents as major influences in his early life.
A family friend once advised him to take up surveying to ensure he had a career that kept him outdoors. Taking that advice to heart, Mark earned an NZ Certificate of Surveying and spent the first five years of his career working on Waiheke Island.
While it was a dream location, it also provided a solid foundation, teaching him to think on his feet and solve problems quickly. Long 12 hour days were balanced with solid ‘team building’ after hours – a work-life balance he still values today.
These days, Mark enjoys golf, yoga and spending time with his family. One afternoon a week he looks after his two grandchildren: “It’s the highlight of the week!”
He joined Team Envelope in early 2025. In his downtime he loves a good, handcrafted beer or red wine, often paired with a creamy pasta.
Though he never considered himself much of a collector, he realised he owns about 250 vinyl LPs, mostly rock and blues from the ‘70s or early ‘80s.
“So, I suppose that would make me a collector!” he laughs.
As his love for pasta and red wine suggests, he has a soft spot for great food and good company. And when asked about his favourite place in the world, he says it would have to be Matapouri Bay in Northland.
“I have great memories of the place, and it hasn’t really changed since I started going there when I was 19.”
A road trip with family or friends, great tunes, and an open road? Always on the cards.
