Sam Katkar

Auckland Structural Manager

Sam’s journey to engineering began in the dirt—literally.

Growing up, he spent countless hours on construction sites with his dad, who owned a thriving construction firm. Watching apartment buildings rise from the ground piqued Sam’s curiosity about their design and laid the foundation for his passion for engineering.

Initially captivated by the allure of designing lightning-fast cars, Sam dreamt of becoming a mechanical engineer. However, his father had other plans, steering him toward civil engineering in the hope he’d one day take over the family business. It wasn’t long before Sam discovered his true calling: structural engineering. The perfect blend of physics and mechanics ignited his interest, and consulting engineering became his path of choice.

Armed with a Master’s degree in Engineering from the University of Canterbury, specializing in structural engineering and project management, Sam has built a reputation as a dynamic leader in the field. His career spans significant roles where he led teams and supported large-scale structural engineering projects.

In late 2024, Sam joined Envelope as the Structural Engineering Manager for the Auckland office. Drawn to Envelope’s people-first approach and commitment to developing and empowering its team members, Sam found the perfect environment to combine his technical expertise with his passion for mentorship and business development.

Beyond the office, Sam enjoys quality time with his family, nurturing his garden, or hitting the open road in his sports car. A self-proclaimed Honda enthusiast, his fascination with Japan is as strong as his love for engineering. A trip to Japan is firmly on his bucket list, where he plans to soak up the culture and perhaps raise a glass to his favourite craft beer.

Rain or shine, Sam never misses a chance to enjoy a cold brew and celebrate life. Kanpai!
