DUNES and NATIVE BIRD TUNES: WE MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Two of our awesome Envelope team members used their paid Volunteer Day recently to get into the wild and give back.
One of Envelope’s rock stars, Mandy, spent her day volunteering at Tiritiri Matangi Island, the incredible open wildlife sanctuary in the Hauraki Gulf. The island is home to many endangered NZ species including takahe, tuatara, Little Spotted kiwi, Hihi (Stitch bird), and Tieke (Saddleback).
Mandy spent her day among the birds there recently. The island is managed by DOC and a group of mostly volunteers known as the Supporters of Tiritiri Matangi. It's easy to become a supporter ($25 a year per family) and you get the advantage of special supporters' weekends.
For Envelope Wellington surveyor Kelsey, her volunteer day was spent working on dune restoration, weeding out non-native plant species, in Houghton and Princess Bays on the capital’s south coast.
She enjoyed the day with locals and some international travellers, who were completing their labour of love in exchange for accommodation, lead by an experienced facilitator from Conservation Volunteers.
“It was really nice to feel like I was giving back to an area of Wellington that feels special to me,” she says.
At Envelope we like to help where we can. We’re more than happy to give our staff a paid Volunteer Day every year to help an organisation or charity of their choice. It’s our Give Back initiative, and it’s an easy decision for us to do this.
