Ian Campbell

Senior Surveyor

Being around Ian Campbell is like that movie where your world transitions from black and white to colour. From bright footwear to retro toys, Ian likes an injection of colour in his life.

Auckland-born Ian is a senior surveyor at Envelope’s groovy Auckland office. He grew up in the Onehunga area and loved biking with his friends – only going home when it got dark, or his rumbling tummy took priority.

A neighbour suggested surveying as a career, selling it as a job where you get to see plenty of different places, and get paid to be in the great outdoors. And so it has proved. After studying at Unitec in his home city, Ian took off for London, working on the underground transport system. His role also allowed him to visit diverse places about every six weeks. Drinking at one of Barbados’ infamous rum shacks with a marching band is just one memorable highlight from Ian’s “work stories” file.

And the way in which Team Envelope operates resonates with how Ian chooses to live his life – his job title of senior surveyor is accompanied by an unofficial but proudly declared tag of “good time vibe creator and contributor”.

Whether it be wearing a pair from his collection of brightly coloured shoes (he resonates with the sentiment: “Life is too short to wear black”) or searching for collectable WWF cards of “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, Hulk Hogan (the rookie card is rare) or Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake – Ian is keen on almost anything which he has a good vibe connection with.

Ian started at Envelope in 2024, embracing the culture which feels like a huge, diverse extended family, where there are no attitudes and a genuine work ethic and commitment to get the job done.

Not one to stand still for long, Ian’s snacks of choice are an ice-cold Pepsi and a freshly opened bag of potato chips. And if this is followed by a lazy afternoon hammock snooze (very rare these days, he adds), the day goes from pastel to bright on his happiness dial.
