Tim Coppelmans

Senior Civil Engineer

Born and raised in Tilburg, in the Netherlands, Tim’s parents wanted a life with a less hectic pace for their three children, somewhere away from the busy capitals of Europe. They chose Napier in New Zealand.

It was a big decision for his family as their lineage dates back several centuries in the world capital of windmills, tulips, and wooden shoes.

Tim pursued an engineering cadetship at the Napier City Council, working fulltime and studying part time for his Diploma in Engineering through the Western Institute of Technology in Taranaki.

Strong in maths and graphics all through his schooling, Tim gets great satisfaction from seeing his designs constructed, and becoming a useful asset to the community, such as new roading.

Tim started at Envelope’s Wellington office in July 2022, and quickly found it was different from other workplaces with work flexibility, and a high level of trust and responsibility placed in staff.

“You can talk to anyone in the office openly, including the directors, and I really appreciate that.”

His work involves taking infrastructure and development projects from a concept stage through design and consenting and on to detailed design and monitoring on-site construction and contracts.

Outside work, Tim enjoys field hockey and football in the weekends. He loves hiking or day walks in the ranges around Wellington. And when the capital turns on some of its infamous weather, he is happy to head inside for some chill time with a movie.

Tim is keen to travel more internationally in future, with the United States and South America on his ‘bucket list’.

At the end of a hard work day or returning from a ramble around the great outdoors Tim’s all time favourite food is pizza, especially if homemade, and washed down with a cold beer.
